This Acrylic Art is a unique and exclusive art form. It is true to life reverse sculpture. Coupled with all the technical and creative aspects involved, it makes it a truly unique art. The art has no embedding in the acrylic which is 1/2” to 1.1/2” thick.

The artist visualizes the image and carves it from the reverse of the acrylic with a high speed electric drill (approx. 30,000 revolutions per minute), the drilling being done with utmost care lest it come out on the other side.

The carving has to be as deep as possible for maximum effect. At the same time the drill should not go so deep that it comes out from the other surface. One can carve and create mainly flowers, and sometimes birds which are so life like, that people often think that they have been embedded into the material or frozen into it in some way. But in reality there is nothing put into the acrylic ... its simply carved out, in a three dimensional way, in various shapes, and then coloured.

Colouring is done by injecting water soluble dyes and finally the openings are sealed with plaster of Paris. For special effects, the carved sheet is subjected to edge lighting, giving it an ethereal and mystic effect.
